Yoga Therapy is a holistic journey of self-discovery, using tailored practices and the tools of yoga to reduce suffering and support sustainable wellbeing.

Yoga Therapy

What is it?

In a therapeutic context we shift the focus from the practice to the person.

You may already have a clear goal or intention, or together we can consider things like reducing stress, improving strength, managing pain, improving sleep, supporting physiotherapy or reducing side effects from illness or medication - it could be anything.

Yoga therapy takes time to look at your current lifestyle, what is supporting wellness in your life and what might be causing imbalances.

Once we have a baseline, together we explore and integrate simple practices, models, ideas or changes in your life to promote ease and wellness. Creating self awareness and empowering you to create more balance and harmony in your daily life.

We explore practices, models and wisdom from Yoga, Ayurveda and modern science with supported studies to agree on the most beneficial practices or life changes for you. Implementing small changes or daily practices that are simple but targeted.

I draw on many elements of Yoga and Ayurveda to help you adjust daily life. This is a continual learning journey where I regularly read, research and seek out new and old information and studies in relation to health and Yoga.

Who is it for?

Anyone!

It is particularly beneficial for people managing a current health challenge or recovering from one. In this experience Yoga Therapy supports medical interventions by looking at other aspects of your holistic health.

While your efforts are focused on healing or managing a specific challenge, in Yoga Therapy we look at practices to support this. This could look like:

  • Breath practices to reduce stress

  • Movement practices to improve sleep

  • Meditation practices to reframe your relationship with pain, discomfort or change

  • Learning a new model or philosophy to understand our body and mind better

  • Adopting lifestyle changes that support reduced stress and a more easeful life to give more space to healing or adapting.

We apply the yogic Vinyasa Krama approach, which just means we take it step by step, intelligently placed orderly steps. Starting small and subtle then increasing and adjusting as things change or improve.

Group Yoga Therapy

Group Yoga Therapy sessions are short courses that target a common challenge. Things like stress, poor sleep or back and spine pain. Over a few sessions we will look at the yogic view and western science, learn targeted movement, meditation and breath practices and look at ways you can be aware of your own patterns and continue to manage and improve in your own life in a group where the challenge is shared.

Individual Yoga Therapy

Individual Yoga Therapy is one on one sessions where the focus is on your unique life, lifestyle, goal and challenges.

Together we explore practices, theory and studies to try.

To allow space to experiment and adjust, individual yoga therapy is a series of 3 one on one sessions. These may be over 3 weeks or over a couple of months, depending on what we both agree works for you. to get the most benefit..
